Lessons in Guitar & Music

Getting you to Understand Music and Play Guitar

better than you ever thought you could

As a music instructor I am passionate about what I do.

That passion is reflected in my engagement with students, and in the level of thought that goes into the preparation of every lesson. Whether it be with young learners or adults, that zeal for all things guitar is channeled into every lesson I teach.

What People are Saying about

Rik Shedden Guitar

Entry-level to Advanced to Live Performance

If you're new to guitar I've got it covered. I excel in getting beginners up and running - adults and kids. I've lost count over the years of the number of

entry-level players I've shaped into confident guitarists, here in

Boston, and previously in Vancouver and Melbourne.

If you have some experience already, if you've pieced a lot of this together

but have fallen into a rut with your playing. Or if you're eager for more but still feel like you're on the outside looking in. I get it. When I was younger I spent years exploring on my own, slowing down vinyl, decoding TABs, getting pretty good. But without structure, I was finding too many dead ends,

too many unanswered questions.

I've got this. Taking years of formal education, I've streamlined

the whole process so as to support only what is applicable to real world soloing, only what makes practical sense for chord usage, only what music theory is necessary to help people understand the workable connections between the various elements of music. There's plenty here to keep people busy

for a good long while. What can I say, it's guitar ~ it's a part of life!

"My 14 year old son Lucas was about to start electric guitar lessons with Rik when the pandemic hit the United States and we all went into quarantine. Rik offered online lessons and Lucas has been working with Rik online every week. It’s been wonderful ~ Joanna

Acoustic Entry-level, Intermediate

& Advanced Learners

Explore the guitar at your own pace and with a selection of your favorite songs. I work with you to systematically build your chord voicings and right-hand technique, moving into barre chords and other fun stuff early.

"My lessons with Rik have far exceeded my expectations. I tried teaching myself to play the guitar on the internet and realized there was just no structure or direction ~ Larry

Electric Entry-level, Intermediate

& Advanced Learners

Already have a goal in mind – an open mic night, a blues jam with friends, to sit in with other musicians and hold your own? Great! It’s all totally doable. I'll get you there and show you the underlying structure that allows soloing to reflect the chords in a song in a way that you can apply to virtually any setting.

"I can honestly say that I am having a blast at every lesson. I wanted to learn more about guitar theory, soloing and to build my confidence to play in public and with friends ~ Rich
